(March, 2015) AJ is a fabulous English tutor. He is very thorough (He makes sure you understand what you are being taught), and very patient. AJ is passionate about what he knows and has quite a sense of humour. I am very lucky that I received him as a tutor and so will you be. (February, 2015) When AJ [The Island English Tutor] worked with Rachel during the school strike (Fall, 2014), he was incredible. He decided not to cover anything that might be part of the curriculum she might learn in grade 9 as that would duplicate. Instead, he presented her with lessons that would be valid from now up through university. He started with the structure and style of essay writing. Just the basics, but done with just the right amount of query and lecture to achieve attention. Moreover, he used simplicity so that the information was not overwhelming (a definite fault of most teachers).
The remainder of the 4 sessions he concentrated on the structure, style, content and format of the short story. This is actually a rather complex form of writing that most people do not take seriously. He used short stories, and questions to help illustrate; but truly it was the mode of his tutoring that brought the lessons to life. She welcomed his sessions, so learning took place. It was great.
(January, 2015) . . . it's well known that he--AJ--is an effective and fun teacher who encourages a 'thinking' atmosphere instead of a strict, 'by-the-book' atmosphere. There are more exceptions than rules in the English language, and learning how to think about the language and the process of its utilization is his hallmark. I know--from personal experience--that AJ teaches that aspect--and many others --with the skilled prowess of a seasoned professional.
In essence, he taught me to think about how to get on his nerves.
(October, 2014) Highly knowledgeable and entertaining, A.J. [The Island English Tutor] makes sure that there is never a dull moment for English. Not only did A.J. show me many valuable skills and techniques to improve my writing, but also ensured that the lessons were never boring or tedious (unlike English class). I saw a noticeable improvement on my essay writing quality and felt better about writing overall. And A.J.'s extensive knowledge in the subject showed in his ability to answer any of my English and writing questions. Highly Recommended!
(June, 2014) Engaging, knowledgeable, and rather humourous, A. J. is a spectacular tutor. Learning the intricacies of essay writing and literature analysis, I feel I've not only gained valuable knowledge, but--more critically--a rooted self confidence in my writing skills. Class with A. J. will no sooner put you to sleep than going to the fair, as his enthusiastic, youthful personality, keeps the learning experience fun and enjoyable. I would highly recommend his services to all of those who wish to enhance their skills in literature and have a ball at the same time!
(August 25, 2013) Our family would highly recommend A.J. for all your English tutoring needs. This past school year he helped our son with his essay writing tremendously. Jacob went from a “C” to a “B+” & had fun while learning how to do it! A.J. is very nice, funny & educated; Jacob would tell you himself that he really liked working with A.J.
